Questions about the move of community email lists from Vital Communities to UVLists. For the schedule and the process, see Vital Communities List Migration. For questions about using the lists day to day, see the general FAQ.

The move

Why are the lists moving?

Vital Communities and UVLists agreed to move the Upper Valley community email lists to UVLists. See the announcement.

Is UVLists part of Vital Communities?

No. UVLists is a separate Vermont nonprofit run by volunteers. See About UVLists.

Is it still the same list?

Yes. The subscribers, the purpose, the guidelines, and the volunteers who run it stay the same. Only the name, the address, and the service change. See Renaming Lists.

When does my list move?

Each list has an announcement date and a cutover date. See the migration schedule.

Subscribers

Do I need to resubscribe?

No. Unless you unsubscribe from the Vital Communities list before its cutover date, your subscription moves to UVLists automatically, along with your choice of digest or individual messages.

Will the old messages move too?

Yes. The complete archive of each Vital Communities list is being moved and added to the archive of its new list on UVLists, so past messages and new ones will be in one place.

I do not want to move to UVLists

Unsubscribe from the Vital Communities list before its cutover date. If your list has already moved, you can leave the new list at any time. See Leave a list.

What is my list's new address?

Town lists now end in -discuss. For example, the Norwich list's address is norwich-discuss@lists.uvlists.org. Each list's page in the list directory shows its new addresses.

Can I post to the new list before the cutover date?

Not yet. Once a list is announced you can subscribe to the new list, but posting opens on the cutover date.

What happens if I write to the old address?

After the cutover date, mail sent to the old @lists.vitalcommunities.org address gets an automatic reply with the new address. Your message is not passed along, so send it again to the new address and update your contacts.

How do I keep the new list's messages out of my spam folder?

Add the list to your contacts using its contact card, and mark lists.uvlists.org as a safe sender. See Before your list moves.

I stopped getting messages after my list moved

Check your spam folder first. See Delivery problems, or email helpdesk@uvlists.org.

List administrators

What do list administrators need to do?

Review your list's page on this wiki and send any corrections. See the administrator review request and the list administrator guide.

Still need help?

Email helpdesk@uvlists.org. Please include the name of your list and the email address you subscribed with.
