Subject: Please review the Barnard-Discuss information page
Hello,
Barnard is scheduled to move from Vital Communities to UVLists on 10/27/2026.
As part of the move, the list is being renamed from Barnard to Barnard-Discuss. This is the same Barnard community list; its name, address, and service provider are changing.
UVLists and the current provider will handle the migration, including creating the new list, transferring subscribers and any archive being migrated, closing the old list, and notifying subscribers. You do not need to perform or approve those operational steps.
What we need from you
Please review wiki.mediawiki, the draft information page for your list. Once published at https://uvlists.org/wiki/Lists:Barnard, this page will be the source of truth for the list's public description, purpose, and rules.
Please check:
1. List identity
- Old name and address: Barnard <barnard@lists.vitalcommunities.org>
- New name and address: Barnard-Discuss <barnard-discuss@lists.uvlists.org>
- Community name and state
- The year or date the list became active, if shown
2. Statement of Purpose
- Who the list serves
- What subjects belong on the list
- Any wording inherited from the old page that is outdated or unclear
3. Posting guidelines and General List Rules
- Local examples and restrictions
- The monthly limit on commercial posts
- Expectations for names, civility, cross-posting, copyrighted material, and private correspondence
- Any town-specific rule that should be added, removed, or changed
4. Practical information
- Posting and owner-contact addresses
- Web and email instructions for joining or leaving
- Archive access wording
- Links to UVLists help pages
There are two ways to make corrections:
Option 1: Reply by email
Send corrections in ordinary email, grouped under the four headings above. UVLists will update the page for you.
Option 2: Edit the wiki page directly
If you would rather make the changes yourself, reply to hello@uvlists.org requesting a wiki account. Once your account is enabled, edit the page at https://uvlists.org/wiki/Lists:Barnard directly. Please save your changes by 10/27/2026; you do not need to edit the raw MediaWiki source file.
Owner and moderator email after launch
UVLists will use Request Tracker to manage email sent to list owners and moderators. It assigns each request a tracking number, keeps related replies together, and helps prevent questions from being lost or answered twice. We will send a separate email explaining notifications and how to reply. Nothing in Request Tracker needs to be set up as part of this review.
