Vital Communities List Migration
Overview
As described in News/uvlists-and-vital-communities-reach-an-agreement-regarding-transitions-of-upper-valley-lists, UVLists is documenting the migration of community email lists from Vital Communities to UVLists. This page tracks the planned schedule and process; its subpages provide reusable communications for subscribers and list administrators.

Migration schedule
The schedule below shows the planned announcement and cutover dates for each list. Dates and status may change as migration work progresses.
The status column uses these terms:
- Not migrated - Migration has not started.
- Signup open - Existing Vital Communities subscribers have been notified. The new list is available for subscriptions but not yet for posting.
- Migrated - The list is operating on UVLists, the prior Vital Communities list is closed, and an autoresponse directs senders to the new address.
- Complete - The prior Vital Communities list has been fully retired.

Migration process
Each list follows this general process:
- On the Announcement Date a notice that the list is moving is sent to the existing list, containing details for how to opt-out and the closing date of the existing list (typically 7 calendar days) (Sample Announcement)
- List Administrators will receive a separate announcement with additional steps to take before the closing date (Sample Admin Announcement)
- Existing list subscribers opt-out by unsubscribing from the existing list before the Cutover Date
- On the Cutover Date another notice will be sent to the remaining list members, stating that the list will be closing at the end of the day. (Sample Closing Announcement)
- The existing list will be moved to moderated mode, so no posts will be passed to subscribers. New posts to the existing list will receive an auto-response stating the list has moved and where to find the new list. (Sample Autoresponse)
- Subscribers who did not opt out are imported with their delivery preferences. A welcome message with information about the list, its moderators, and how to get help is then sent. (Sample Welcome Message)
